I wanted to write a short article on the benefits of personal training. Some of you reading this article could be new to personal training, or thinking about trying it but still undecided if it would be money well spent, and would help you to achieve your fitness goals.
Here are my six benefits to personal training.
1. Increases Accountability
Consistency is arguably one of the most important factors in helping individuals reach their fitness goals. Without consistency of doing your workouts then there is no real success. Weight loss needs consistency and so does muscle gain. Increasing accountability helps with keeping you consistent and this is where hiring a wonderful trainer comes into play.
Accountability has to be one of the most common and talked about factors in why people hire a personal trainer in the first place. Without having that trainer in the gym waiting for you then going to the gym can be 10x times harder. Plus, investing in sessions and paying for a personal trainer keeps you honest, and keeps you consistent. The last thing you want to do is cancel on them, or not show up. Firstly, you lose out on that money you’ve invested and secondly you feel bad about not turning. Plus you know next time that as a warm up the trainer will make you do 15 minutes of burpees.
I have had numerous clients tell me that they would not come to the gym unless they hired me. Simple as that.
Invest in a personal trainer today and get that accountability in place to help you succeed.
2. Tailored Individual Programme and Exercises
Like most people that go to the gym the plan that they have is somehow put together through google search or recommendations from friends, or people they speak to in the gym.
The workout they perform is usually generic and not really tailored to work towards any specific goals. They also have a workout that doesn’t look at weak parts of their body or tight muscles that could cause an injury further down the road.
The benefit of hiring a personal trainer is that they can do all this for you. They can design a programme that helps you to work towards your goals. This programme will have the right amount of exercises, the correct number of reps and sets, and also the progression in terms of weight increase, or rep increases every week as well.
Additionally, after your initial consultation with the PT they might notice an area that could do with some improving. It could be poor hip mobility, or the fact you have issues squatting that could be corrected with some mobility work beforehand. Perhaps there is an imbalance in strength between the right leg and left leg which needs some single leg exercises to correct this issue.
Everybody has there own specific needs and wants. Individuality is a big part of the world we live in. Why would you follow a generic workout from google that someone that doesn’t know you has designed.
3. Increases Motivation
Motivation when going to the gym is important. Motivation to go to the gym in the first place must be there otherwise you would never step foot in the gym. Motivation to push hard during your workout to achieve the required fitness results is paramount. But what if motivation is not there, or low. Then this is where a personal trainer comes into the picture.
Someone there with you to push you through the hardest of hard workouts. They will be by your side, living out every rep with you. Providing strong words of encouragement for you to succeed and move ever closer to those goals you have in your head.
Additionally if you are new to the gym then having someone there to workout with and to talk to can help reduce fears and anxieties that can manifest when going to the gym for the first time, or on your own.
Motivation is key for success and growth.
4. Nutritional Advice
Whether your goals is weight loss or muscle gain then having the right nutrition behind you is key for success.
Not every personal trainer you come into contact with is qualified to give nutritional advice but they should be able to give you some good general nutrition advice.
Knowing how much protein to consume, or the benefits of consuming food vegetables and fruits would be something a personal trainer can talk you through.
If you are looking for specific nutrition advice to go alongside the personal training look for a personal trainer with the correct qualifications.
5. Improves Your Mental Health
Personal training and exercise can help improve your mental health.
There are numerous studies on the benefits of exercise in regards to improving mental health, and don’t take my words for it as well as there are plenty of studies that show this. I have attached one underneath for your reading.
Exercise could help to decrease stress and improve mood, and cognitive function. Exercise can help to manufacture resilience through the struggles of a strenuous workout.
Resistance training in particular has a very positive effect as increasing the weight being lifted or reps being completed has a rewarding effect on your mind, and the feeling of achievement increases. This can only help promote mood, confidence and the feel the good feeling caused by the endorphins being released after exercise.
Clients often tell me that working out has a meditative effect on them as there focus is solely on the exercise being performed or the weight being lifted.
This doesn’t just include resistance training as the main source of exercise needed to improve your mental health, it can be anything, running, boxing, cycling etc.
Plus, the right personal trainer for you will build a personal connection with you. They will care about you and your life. They will be in your corner when times get hard and be there for advice when you need it. At the end of the day they could become a very good friend to you.
6. Helps You To Reach Your Goal More Quickly and More Effectively
Hiring a personal trainer can help you reach your fitness goals a lot sooner than you would think.
Are you tired of going to the gym on your own month after month and not seeing any results. No strength gains. No weight loss. Minimal muscle gain. What’s going on? This can be a common theme amongst gym users.
Hiring a good personal trainer can help you avoid all these issues.
What if I told you this can be all a thing of the past with the hiring of a personal trainer.
Hiring a personal trainer can offset this trend and help you reach your fitness goals quicker and more efficiently. But how is this done?
The right personal trainer for you will put you on a programme that will be geared towards reaching your fitness goals. Week after week they will assess your performance in the gym and make changes where needed. Road blocks that you and your trainer might encounter will be cleverly navigated or blasted through. You won’t believe your results.
Your strength gains will go up and weight loss, or muscle gain will start to happen.
I hope this article has been helpful and shows you how effective personal training can be. If you have any further questions or interested in personal training then please send me a message.
